This new XTension permits high-quality, fully imposed output through the production process, from first draft to final film.
INposition Lite adds a new menu item under the File menu, Print Signatures.... When selected, the user is presented with an expanded version of the Print dialog for creating custom signatures.
To design a signature, first decide how many pages will be printed on one plate and choose 2-up or 4-up from the Layout pop-up menu. Then decide how many press sheets will be folded together as a unit for insertion into the publication and choose that number from the Sheets pop-up menu. Use the Binding pop-up to decide how each folded signature will be combined with others in the publication. Saddle Stitched means that each signature will be inserted inside the previous one - use this setting for publications that are stapled or stitched at their spine. And INposition Lite automatically adjusts for creep or shingling.
INposition Lite will re-order your pages using the Auto Number feature, or you can type in your own arbitrary numbering sequence. The Arrow icons control the orientation of the pages, normally either head-to-head or toe-to-toe, meaning the tops or bottoms of the pages in a 4-up configuration abut each other. Custom values can be enteredfor appropriate gaps between pages, both horizontally and vertically. Selecting the appropriate icons to the left of the set up window will cause Trim/Bleed, Fold, Target, Plate Tag, Gray Bar and CMYK Bar press marks to be automatically added to the signature. Press the Setup button to access QuarkXPress print options such as OPI inclusion; Separations On/Off; Normal, Low Resolution or Rough Output; etc.
Select the Preview button to see how the pages will print as plates. A gray outline indicates what size output is specified via Page Setup, and how much of the current signature will fit within that output size. The imposition page order number is superimposed over the page preview to help you determine if a proper ordering sequence is specified. INposition Lite settings are stored with the XPress document when saved - very useful for templates and frequently used documents.
